Services

Use services for reusable descriptions of what an organisation offers.

For example, create a service called “Venue hire” and select it on the home page and a services listing. Update the service record when its description changes, rather than maintaining separate copies on every page.

Note

Available when Services is enabled.

Admin path: Content > Services
Routes: /services and /service/{id}

Find a service

The list shows each service’s state, title, category tags, and last update date. Filter it by title, by State, or by Category. Open a service by selecting its title. The bin icon deletes it after a confirmation.

Create a service

  1. Select Add service.
  2. Enter the Title and Order.
  3. Add Category tags and General tags.
  4. Add the Image.
  5. Write the Card description and the Description.
  6. Select Save.

The title, order, and image are required.

The card description is the short introduction visitors see in a list. Use it to explain what the service offers. Put the longer explanation in the description and, if the service has its own page, in its content blocks. The order value affects listings that sort by that value; manual collections have their own order.

Category tags connect the service to a category. Type a tag and press Enter, or pick a suggested one. Use exactly the same spelling as the category’s own tags.

Choose the destination

The Has its own page switch decides where the service card leads.

  • On: the service gets an internal detail page. Set its URL, then fill the Content box with blocks. You can also turn on Show table of contents. Complete the SEO and sharing fields. A single Button caption field sets the text of the button that opens this page.
  • Off: there is no detail page. Enter the Button caption and choose the Link destination. A link can be a typed address, a fixed page, a custom page, or another content item.

Test the public card in both cases. It should open the service page or the chosen link, not an empty route.

Turn on Has its own page when visitors need more explanation before acting. Start its blocks with who the service is for, what it includes, and how to enquire. Write a button caption that says what happens next, such as “Enquire about venue hire”. Without its own page, a button also needs the destination it opens.

Add subservices

Subservices are short items written directly on this service, such as the parts of a package. They are not links to other service records.

  1. In the Subservices box, select Add subservice.
  2. Enter its Title and Description.
  3. Add a Link if visitors should be able to open more information.
  4. Add an Image if needed.
  5. Use the up and down arrows to arrange the items, and the delete control to remove one.

Subservices appear as a list on the service’s page, below its content. They are most useful when Has its own page is on.

For example, “Private events” could list “Room hire” and “Catering” as subservices, each with a sentence of description. If one of them also has its own service record, link the subservice to it. Editing the subservice text does not change that other service, and editing the other service does not change this text.

Publish the service

Select Save before publishing. Then select Publish. Use Unpublish to remove the public item without deleting its admin record. Delete removes the record permanently.

Display and check the service

Add it to a supported collection section, or check the rules on your services list page. Publishing it does not automatically put it in a manually chosen collection.

After saving, check the listing card, its image crop, its destination, and any subservice items. If an old description remains on one page, check whether that page contains a separately typed copy instead of a link to the service record.

  • The card shows the intended image, title, and card description.
  • The card opens the service page or the chosen link.
  • Subservice items appear in the intended order, and their links work.
  • The service appears in the collections where it should be listed.
